RCS extends humanitarian aid to displaced Lebanese

'The UAE Red Crescent Society "RCS" has delivered big quantities of foodstuffs and relief materials to thousands of Lebanese families that had fled the Northern Province following the Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

The aid programme is being supervised by RCS Beirut office in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Lebanon and the Lebanese Red Cross Society.

RCS Deputy Secretary General for Relief and Projects, Saleh Al Mulla, said the programme had been launched at the instructions of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and was being closely followed up by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of RCS.

Al Mulla said the Society had tried hard during the last couple of days to overcome obstacles impeding the flow of relief to Lebanon. A major obstacle was the scarcity of trucks, which turned into a rare commodity due to the continuous Israeli bombing, Al Mulla said.

Nevertheless, RCS relief teams managed yesterday to reach the displaced Lebanese at Northern Province and completed the first phase of its relief programme, which benefited 1,500 families. The second phase, targeting 3,000 families, will extend to other affected areas. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
