The UAE Red Crescent Society said it had extended urgent humanitarian relief assistance to Najaf population and other Iraqi cities. RCS Representative in Iraq Ali Al Ka'abi said yesterday the assistance, distributed in coordination with Iraqi Red Crescent, is part of the society's campaign to relieve Iraqi people. He appealed for more relief aid to cover the acute shortage of medical supplies in Iraqi hospitals which were facing increasing pressure due to the current events in the country.

The RCS announced also it was planning to airlift urgent relief aid to Iraq. ' We are preparing to send a plane-load of medical supplies to Baghdad,' said Dr. Saleh Al Taie, Director of Relief at the RCS. He said that his agency was coordinating with its Iraqi counterpart and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to face the humanitarian challenges in Iraq by providing the basic needs of the people.
