The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) yesterday, continued for the second running day to distribute relief supplies to the Afghan refugees here amid heavy bombardment of the city which left scores of civilian victims. Materials distributed by the RCS team included foodstuff, blankets winter clothes and medicines. A fourth RCS convoy carrying 300 tonnes of relief assistance arrived in the city yesterday after facing much snags in the road. RCS board member Mohammed Al Rumaithi said the team had inspected conditions of refugees in a number of camps to assess their needs. He said the refugees were in need of more foodstuff, blankets and tents to face the harsh winter. He urged other relief agencies to rush in more relief supplies before the fall of winter which blocks roads to refugees camps. The RCS will continue to extend emergency relief aid inside Afghanistan to ease suffering of the population,' he added. The RCS team met with Abdullah Mohajir, Chairman of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, to discuss relief operations and what is needed to help the Afghan refugees. Mohajir paid tribute to President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the UAE people for the emergency assistance they sent to the Afghan people. 'The RCS was the only relief agency to carry relief assistance to Kabul,' he said. The team also visited hospitals in the city to distribute medical supplies and equipment.
