The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has paid tribute to LT General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Minister of Defence, for his support of charity works. RCS Chairman Khalifa Nasser Al Suwaidi said that Sheikh Mohammed's humanitarian initiatives "have eased much of the suffering of the destitute and victims of disputes and disasters in many parts of the world.”

In a statement to WAM, Al Suwaidi pointed out the launching yesterday by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) of the State of the World's Children Report 2003 had emphasized the UAE's role in the improvement of conditions of children and support of their humanitarian issues. " The support by Sheikh Mohammed of the local charity organisations has helped them render services quite well,” Al Suwaidi said. He indicated that the activities " shahr al Ataa " , co-organized in Dubai during the past month of Ramadan by the RCS, UNICEF and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were a good example of how joint cooperation and coordination could benefit children.
