Baghdad - The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) said yesterday it would distribute more relief to needy people in Iraq. In a new relief campaign with the help of the UAE Embassy in Baghdad, the RCS distributed 1000 food parcels and other relief supplies to poor families in Baghdad and Basra. Coordinator of RCS operations in Iraq, Ali Shaumail Al Ka'abi said that 500 food parcels and blankets would be distributed to families of martyrs and wounded in Al Sader City. 'Another 500 food parcels will be given away to Christian poors and orphans at Karada area,' he added.

Sheikh Abdul Hadi Daraji of Al Sader Office paid tribute to the leadership, government and people of the UAE for their generous support and honourable stances towards Iraqi people. He appealed to other Arab countries to follow the UAE's suit in its humanitarian initiatives in Iraq.

Ibrahim Al Janabi, Secretary of the National Alliance Movement, hailed the UAE's humanitarian initiatives towards all sectors of Iraqi people, saying they help ease suffering of people who are living abject human conditions. He said during a meeting with UAE Charge d' Affaires in Baghdad Ali Saif Al Ka'abi that UAE's support for Iraq underlines the deep fraternal ties between the two peoples.

Meanwhile, Al Ka'abi also met Abdul Karim Juma, Director of Office of Masoud Al Barzani, Governor of Kurdistan, to explore the best mechanism to deliver assistance to north of Iraq. He said that an understanding was reached with the Kurdistan Democratic Party to give assistance to over 7000 orphans in the region. Similar appreciation was echoed by Dr. Hatem Mukhlis, Secretary General of Iraqi Patriotic Movement, during a meeting with Al Ka'abi.
