The International Open Heart Surgery Team of the Red Crescent Society will head for Syria next Thursday to operate on a number of Syrian and Palestinian heart patients in the capital city of Damascus.

Twenty five hart surgeons and medical technicians from UAE, Canada, France and South Africa will perform open heart surgeries, catheterizations and other operations at specialized and fully equipped theatres with focus on children with heart disease.

The humanitarian initiative is collaborated with the Syrian Health Ministry, The Al Basel Heart Centre in Damascus and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Beneficiaries of the initiative which is patronized by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) will be among the poorest and most unprivileged Syrian and Palestinian individuals suffering from various heart conditions that mandate open heart surgery and heart care.

"The open heart surgery team's visit to Syria is part of an imitative aimed at boosting the already distinct and deep-rooted brotherly ties with the Syrian people as well as of the UAE's efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people", said Chairman of the Board of Directors of UAE RCS.
