An international medical team sponsored by the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) arrived in Sana'a on Friday to conduct open-heart surgeries in collaboration with an Italian medical firm and the Yemeni Health Ministry. Dr Saleh Al Taei, RCS Director of Relief Department who heads the delegation, said on arrival that the visit was upon instructions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the UAE charity organisation.

"The 16-member Italian medical team, which will conduct the surgeries under the umbrella of the RCS, is well-known and has visited 15 countries has been rendering field services for over the 30 years," said Al Taei. He added that while in Yemen the team would perform open-heart surgery operations on more than 35 patients and cardiac catheterisation for over 100 patients in Al Thawra hospital in Sana'a, all free of charge.
