A convoy of vehicles loaded with relief supplies sent by the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, yesterday reached Al Faw and provided much needed water and other relief supplies to the Iraqi people. This was the fifth of a series of relief campaigns organised by the RCS for Iraq on the instructions of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign affairs and Society's Chairman. The Society's convoy also provided water and supplies to the villages on the way to Al Faw and extended medicines to the sick and injured. Generators supplied by the RCS have also been used to give electricity to hospitals in Baghdad. Meanwhile, the RCS has sent a vessel laden with supplies to the port town of Umm Al Qasar, making it the first humanitarian vessel to anchor at the port. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
