A planeload of relief materials will be dispatched tomorrow to Niyala, capital of Darfur region in Sudan, as part of an air bridge, run by the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) to help people there who are affected by recent events. The plane will carry more than 40 tonnes of foodstuff materials such as corn, rice, sugar, edible oils, milk and dates, donated by philanthropist Ousha Khalifa Al Suweidi.

Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, RCS's Board Chairman, said that Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and RCS President was closely following up relief programmes and activities in the Sudanese arena, specially those aimed at alleviating plight of the Darfurians. Haj El Faki Hashim, Sudanese Ambassador in Abu Dhabi, hailed the UAE's humanitarian efforts in Sudan. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
