RCS sets aside Dh26million to Palestine

The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has set aside Dh 26 million against its 2003 budget to implement new charity projects and humanitarian programmes in Palestine. Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, Chairman of the RCS Board of Directors, said that the RCS pays close attention to its humanitarian programmes in Palestine, on the directives of President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and constant follow-up of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the RCS. Al Suweidi added that the RCS future plans " are to continue humanitarian programmes in all aspects, health, education, social and to support the deteriorated infrastructure.



"He pointed out that the reconstruction of the Jenin camp is the most important project carried out by the RCS to provide shelter to families who their homes were destroyed, noting that the first phase of the project has been completed including total removal of the debris, preparation of the final design of the camp and the tender documents. Al Suweidi also said that the second phase of the project would start mid of Feb 2003 and would include construction of 800 residential units and public utilities s well as infrastructural facilities.



Meanwhile, Sana'a Darwish Al Katbi, The RCS Secretary General said that the RCS had engaged, with the advent of 2003, in a new stage of support to the Palestinians, Under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's wife, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union (GWU) and honorary President of the RCS. "The RCS Humanitarian programme includes emergency relief and humanitarian aid," Al Katbi said in a statement. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
