The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) signed agreement in Baghdad today with its Iraqi counterpart, providing for cooperation and coordination between the two humanitarian bodies. The agreement stipulates that the UAE's RCS would reinforce the strategic reserve of its Iraqi counterpart with more relief items that are to be purchased from the Iraqi local market. The items will be distributed to the needy, including those in hospitals and orphanages, by a joint committee. The agreement was signed by Dr. Saleh Mussa, Director of Emergency and relief section at the RCS and on the Iraqi side by Dr. Hisham Salman Al Saadoun, Chairman of the Iraqi Red Crescent. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of international Red Cross and the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Dr. Al Saadoun hailed the support extended by the UAE people to their Iraqi brethren and expressed hope that this support would continue. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
