The UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, has spent Dh 228 million for relief and humanitarian operations inside the country and abroad according to its annual report for 2004.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and RCS Chairman said, in spite of the tremendous achievements and successes made by the UAE RCS over the past year in various humanitarian domains inside the country and abroad, but the RCS also lost at the same year its founder and its great patron the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The RCS humanitarian programmes covered many countries, including Palestine, Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Senegal, Bosnia, Morocco, Niger, Yemen, Azerbaijan, Eritrea, Ukraine, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Tanzania, Jordan, Tunisia, Comoros, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Egypt and Mauritania.

The RCS charity projects have expanded considerably, thanks to the relentless support provided to us by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who, like his father, attaches a great value to the humanitarian works, Sheikh Hamdan stated. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
