RCS team to conduct open heart surgeries in Sudan

An International Red Crescent medical team will head for the Sudanese capital city of Khartoum on Monday to carry out open heart surgeries there. Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS), said at a news conference in Abu Dhabi yesterday that the dispatch of the medical team to Sudan was part of the charitable agency's humanitarian works and under the "care for life" slogan. He noted that the international open heart surgery team "is an RCS arm of assistance to all brotherly and friendly peoples".

The International Crescent medical team, he added, was the brainchild of a UAE national who "followed in the steps of H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in charitable deeds." "The team's visit of Sudan comes as an extension of the RCS' programmes in various aspects to alleviate the suffering of the weak and needy", Al Suweidi maintained. He said the team had already visited Egypt, Morocco and Syria. Sudanese Ambassador to the UAE Mohi El Din Salim, who was present at the conference, expressed his government's gratitude to the UAE and the RCS for their support for the Sudanese people, adding the medical team's visit would save the lives of many heart patients there.
