The UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, will soon start distributing 230 tons of date to a number of Arab and Islamic countries for the forth-coming Ramadan. The gesture was in line with the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the close follow-up of Deputy Prime Minister and RCS Chairman, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Countries benefiting from the gesture include Jordan, Iraq, Mauritania, Sudan and Afghanistan.

According to RCS Board Chairman, Khalifa Nasser Al Suwaidi, the kind gesture was part of the commitment of the UAE President and the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to help improve the life of people, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

He said it was also in pursuance of the legacy of the late UAE founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, adding that the RCS had made all the necessary preparations for the swift and successful distribution of the item before the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

He said Afghanistan and Mauritania will each receive 60 tons of the date, Sudan will receive 40 tons, while Iraq and Jordan will receive 39 and 30 tons respectively, adding that a second batch of countries will also receive various quantities of the item later. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
