(WAM) The Relief and Emergency Committee of the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, will soon dispatch a planeload of 40 tonnes of relief supplies to the Palestinian occupied territories. The relief assistance, which is the seventh of its kind to be delivered by the RCS in an air bridge operation to the occupied territories, consists of medicines and food items for the Palestinians, who are facing various forms of atrocities, including over one year of economic blockade by Israel.

The Committee has also approved a number of charity projects in the field of health, education and services to be executed in the occupied territories. This include support for the Al Razi Eye Hospital in Ramallah, in the form of medicines and medical equipment for the Hospital, medicines for the UAE-Jordanian Field Hospital also in Ramallah and the Sheikh Zayed Surgical Hospital, while a rehabilitation centre is to be built in Qalqilia and a clinic in Hebron.

The RCS will build the Khansa Islamic School, a nursery school in Hebron and would supply the Zakat Committee in Khan Yunus with a large quantity of school bags for distribution to Palestinian school children. The RCS has also approved the completion of the Al Farouk and Bilal mosques, in addition to food supplies to the National Committee for Support of the Intifada for distribution to the poor and the needy.

As part of its seasonal programme, the RCS has also approved the Iftar (Ramadan breakfast) and Eid dresses programme for those in need in the occupied territories. According to Sanaa Darwish Al Kutbi, RCS Secretary General, the RCS was pursuing its programmes in support of the Palestinian people in their current situation. She said that a number of other projects are currently under studies, adding that the execution of those projects, aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the Palestinians, would begin as soon as the studies were completed.
