Record breaking response for Abu Dhabi awards this year

The Abu Dhabi Awards received an outstanding 50,841 nominations this year, surpassing all expectations.



Residents from across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi nominated in their thousands at the many booths around the Emirate, and through new methods of introduced this year. These included roaming nomination stations, the website and fax and a dedicated Abu Dhabi Awards call centre, provided by Etisalat. The Abu Dhabi Awards represent the commitment of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed to preserve the legacy of our Nation's late father Sheikh Zayed.



General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, praised the great response and the broad participation in the second year of the Abu Dhabi Awards shown by the significant number of nominations received.



The Crown Prince said that the great response reflects the gratitude that the community of Abu Dhabi has to those people who contribute selflessly to the betterment and development of society. He commented that it indicates the importance of the awards and the appreciation gained by its idea and noble goals.



He highlighted that the response reveals the awareness of the public of their responsibilities towards supporting the government initiatives started to develop the society and country through encouraging goodness and charity Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has filled in a nomination form and placed it one of the nomination boxes, demonstrating the Abu Dhabi government's support of the awards in their drive to preserve the values of gratitude, loyalty and appreciation towards people who are generous, loyal and selfless and dedicated to taking part in good deeds for the welfare of the society.



The winning individuals will be announced at a spectacular Awards ceremony to be held at the Emirates Palace in early December 2006 and televised by Abu Dhabi Television. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
