The year 2010 was a record year for the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital (ADFH) with accomplishments in all departments.

The ADFH, the first public hospital for falcons in the UAE, recorded an 18 per cent in the number of patient visits with over 5,835 falcons being attended to in 2010.

This was the highest number of visits since the hospital opened its doors in 1999, a statement said.

Dr Margit Muller, Director of ADFH said that the facility is the largest falcon hospital in the world, providing comprehensive veterinary care to raptors and all other birds.

"In recent years, the ADFH has emerged as one of the most reputed falcon hospitals in the Gulf region and is now considered the largest falcon hospital in the world and a leading centre for falcon medicine," she added.

Dr Muller added that in 2010, the ADFH won three international awards from Spain, Germany and USA for its tourism programme, quality commitment, excellence, and management merits for marketing.

Dr Muller said that "following a decision of the Executive Council of the Abu Dhabi Government in April 2010, the hospital was put in-charge of the management of the new Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter for stray cats and dogs for the entire emirate of Abu Dhabi".

According to the Hospital Year Book, a total number of 2,285 stray pets — including 2,042 cats and 243 dogs — were neutered by the ADFH in 2010.
