Islamabad - Ishtiyaq Ahmed Khan, a top official for Relief in Pakistan's Council of Ministers has expressed on Thursday his country's gratitude to the UAE for promptly providing assistance to the government of Pakistan and the victims of the earthquake disaster that had erupted there last Saturday.

Khan made the statement in the Pakistan's embassy here, following his reception of relief items donated by the Pakistani community in the UAE, delivered by Fahad Abdul Rahman, head of the Red Crescent's delegation which brought along the items in coordination with Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, UAE ambassador to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Al Shamsi said that the UAE was the first country to provide relief assistance to the tremor's victims at the instructions of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who had immediately ordered the provision of material assistance in form of money, medicines and ten ambulance vehicles, and had also ordered the UAE Armed Forces to establish field hospitals at different earthquake affected areas. He said that the UAE move at the inception of the disaster was an expression of UAE's people's sympathy and fraternity with the people of Pakistan. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
