The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) is working feverishly to devise effective ways of reaching out to the flood victims in Pakistan as it responds to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan's call for the formation of a unified team comprising all UAE humanitarian organisations to provide succour.

"An assessing committee from the Red Crescent Authority will fly soon to Pakistan to determine suitable channels of needed support," Dr Saleh Mohammad Al Tai, deputy secretary-general of RCA, told Gulf News.

The UAE Red Crescent is working closely with the Embassy of Pakistan, the international community, the Pakistani Red Crescent and the national charity organisations to coordinate proper ways to offer support for survivors and those impacted by the flood that hit Pakistan in 2010.

"The committee will evaluate needed life-saving aid to over seven million people left destitute by the worst disaster on record in southern Pakistan. Over 500,000 lost their homes in Sindh province and Baluchistan and an estimated 2.5 hectares remain under water," Al Tai said. – Gulf News
