Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has ordered relief plane to carry an urgent medical aid to the Libyan people to ease their suffering. The move follows the directives by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support the Libyan people in the wake of recent events witnessed by the country.

The relief plane has arrived at Tripoli Airport, carrying huge quantities of medicines, medical devices and three ambulances, which were immediately allocated for Sabha Hospital, which has acute medical shortages.

The shipment was prepared in accordance with the actual medical needs of the health sector in Libya amid great challenges being faced by the Sabha Hospital, which is admitting great numbers of patients following the recent incidents there.

UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) delegation headed by Dr Saleh Al Tayie, acting deputy secretary general for the Relief and Projects has arrived in Libya to assess the humanitarian situation there. The delegation will also meet a number of officials to assess future needs and look closely into the humanitarian situation of the Libyan people in general.

Upon the arrival, the delegation met a number of health authorities at Sabha Hospital and officials of the Libyan Red Society to establish co-ordination on the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid.

The RCA is closely following the humanitarian developments in Libya to ease suffering of Libyans through ongoing programmes. – The Gulf Today
