More tourists and residents will now be able to enjoy the beaches at the Al Mamzar Beach Park, where Dubai Municipality has, in a bid to provide improved comfort and safety for beach-goers, recently completed the first stage of revamping four beaches and part of the lagoon beach.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Khalid Al Zahed, Head of the Marine Unit at the General Projects Department of the municipality, noted that the beaches were nourished with high quality sand and also cleared of the rocks and stones scattered on the beach face. The work also involved minimising the steep slope of two beaches to make them safer for beach-goers.
The project, he said, forms part of the ongoing maintenance and protection works for beaches undertaken by the Marine Unit. The high quality beach sand used for the nourishment operation was cost-effectively sourced from a new project excavation site in the vicinity of Jebel Ali, which was stockpiled on the site as a beach reserve under the strict provisions of the Decree,' he said.
