Their Highnesses, Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates yesterday hailed the plethora of successes made by the UAE during the 32 years of its existence as a nation. In statements to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the UAE National Day, the Rulers described December 2 - the day in which the UAE federation was born - as a conspicuous signpost in the history of the nation. They also stressed that despite those successes the UAE still have great ambitions to achieve more progress and prosperity under the stewardship of Sheikh Zayed.

In a statement on the occasion, H.H Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, described December 2 as a conspicuous signpost in the history of the UAE. "If nations can take pride in their own achievements, then the UAE has every right to pride itself of its greatest achievement of December 2nd 1971. For this day has gone down in our history as the most conspicuous signpost in the history of our nation. It is the day in which the UAE federation was born as a result of the convergence of the popular will for unity with the strong resolve of a visionary leadership, provided by President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his brother, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum" said the Vice President in a statement to "Dir Al Watan Magazine”.

As the UAE commemorates this historic day, we ought to pay tribute to the founders of this federation that has proven its self to be the most viable experience in Arab contemporary history, said Sheikh Maktoum. He further described the National Day as the day which heralded the prosperity of the nation as it paved the way for remarkable achievements in various spheres of socio-economic life. With the country having now completed the basic infrastructure projects, the UAE can move into the future with confidence and enhanced determination. In this increasingly globalised world, the focus is now on the economic strength of the nations.

This is a concept that the UAE leaders, spearheaded by President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Al Nahyan and Their Highnesses, Supreme Council Members and leaders of the emirates have given utmost attention. As a result, the UAE successfully carved a conspicuous place in the global economic map said Sheikh Maktoum, citing as an example of the UAE economic success the recent convening of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings in Dubai.

The fact that the UAE was chosen as the venue for such a high-profile global economic and financial event is a testimony to UAE economic successes. This was the first time that such meetings were held in an Arab country and this again is an evidence of the correctness of the policies and vision of President Sheikh Zayed, noted Sheikh Maktoum. He also commended the young men and women of the UAE who participated in the organization of the event, saying that they had displayed remarkable professionalism and thereby elevated the name of their country even further.

"It was not an easy thing to organise a conference for more than 15,000 delegates, but our people really excelled in organising that conference. The cooperation and coordination between various departments was equally excellent and this contributed to the success of the" said Sheikh Maktoum. The professionalism displayed by the UAE nationals, representing various departments was clearly the fruit of the investment that the UAE has made over years in human resources, noted Maktoum.

"The UAE leadership was conscious from the outset that human resources development was the pillar upon which the comprehensive development would depend,” he said. Sheikh Maktoum said the UAE economy would continue its vibrancy and that the UAE would continue to maintain its global economic status. This would be done through encouragement of national project in addition to foreign investments in areas where advanced technology would be needed.

On the UAE external obligations, Sheikh Maktoum said the UAE would continue to be a major player on Arab and Islamic arena as it has done in the past. "Since the formation of the UAE federation, our country has been in the forefront of countries offering support and assistance to Arab and Islamic brethren in need. On this occasion I would like to renew the UAE support to the Iraqi people, he added.

For his part H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, said in a statement to "Dir Al Watan" Magazine that the dreams for an even greater prosperity for the country and the people of the UAE grows bigger and bigger year by year. +As we make more achievements our dreams for an even greater prosperity for our country and people grows bigger and bigger year by year. With these achievements, our federation grows stronger too. Our federation will therefore remain the symbol of our pride and power+ said Sheikh Sultan. He added in a world where the weak entities and people are increasingly becoming even more vulnerable, unity and larger entities remain the best alternatives for people to survive and live in dignity.

Sheikh Sultan extended his congratulations to President Sheikh Zayed, the Rulers and the UAE people on the occasion. Speaking also to "Dir Al Watan”, H.H. Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, said that the UAE had great ambitions to achieve more progress and prosperity under the stewardship of Sheikh Zayed. 'Our development achievements in local and foreign levels, have won the country a reputable position among the advanced states of the world,' he said in a statement to the magazine. He added that the federal institutions had managed to consolidate the foundations of the state and to unleashed all its resources to protect national achievements.

'As we step into a new year in the age of our federation, our ambitions are high and we hope that we would make more progress and prosperity for our people and future posterity.... we pray the Almighty to help us do that for the sake of our people and homeland,' he added. 'As we celebrate the 32nd anniversary of our country's national day, I wish to, first of all, convey our profound congratulations and best wishes to my brother, President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, my brethren, their Highnesses members of the Supreme Council Rulers of the Emirates and the UAE people,' he said, praying to God for many returns of this happy occasion.

H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, paid tribute President Sheikh Zayed saying: "President Sheikh Zayed took it upon himself to turn a distant dream into reality. Our federation has now proven itself to be our greatest strength. This is a great achievement, for human history has shown beyond no doubt that a dream for unity without a sincere leader to pursue it would be impossible. That is why our celebration today should be two-fold: to commemorate the success of our federation and pay tribute to Sheikh Zayed for his rare wisdom.”

Sheikh Hamad stressed the need to safeguard the achievements and redouble efforts to achieve more in various spheres. H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm al-Qaiwain, said the UAE had emerged as a full-fledged modern state in a record time thanks to the judicious leadership of Sheikh Zayed. 'We have set a unique experiment for a cohesive federation that meets international standards and achieve aspirations of its people,' he told the magazine.

"Our success is not focused on building strong armed forces capable of safeguarding national gains and values but extend to all walks of life, earning the country respect and praise of regional and international circles,' he added. The UAE, he said, had made sustainable development, thus ranking among the world's highest rating. 'As the UAE celebrates its 32nd anniversary of the Federation, we welcome this occasion with utmost joy for what the union have brought to us in various achievements. But, at the same time, the glorious occasion is a time for reflection to get assure of what we have achieved from our aspired goals,' he said.

Sheikh Rashid maintained that: 'While our country is progressing ahead with its sustainable development plans towards modernisation, originality is given due attention through spreading Arab-Muslim values and local noble traditions. ' The government didn't only provide education, housing, medical care for its citizens but also worked to offer them jobs, help them to get married and create the suitable climate for them to contribute in national development,' he added.

'Economy is one of the key sectors of major strategic importance. Our strategy in this respect seeks to enhance economic integration first among GCC and then with sister Arab countries. All these achievements and those to come, he said, were the fruit of hard and sincere work by the country's leadership, headed by our wise and foresighted leader, president H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brethren, their highnesses members of the Supreme Council, Rulers of the emirates.

H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Ajman said December 2 was a historic day for the UAE, a day in which, he said, the UAE was born and its flag was hoisted alongside those of the world nations. Sheikh Humaid congratulated Sheikh Zayed, saying that he had led his people and country over the year with courage, bravery and rare wisdom.

He described the UAE federation as an example worth emulating, in view of the fact it is the most successful and viable experience in the entire Arab world. It was the federation, he said, that paved the way for successive achievements in the spheres of economics and other social services. The birth of the federation also paved the way for an enduring prosperity that was first and foremost, based on the development of human resources, he noted. This human resources policy took various shapes, beginning with establishment of the educational infrastructure like schools, professionally training institutes, in addition to military schools and academies. This is of course in addition to the opening of institutions of higher learning, he said.

Sheikh Humaid underlined the significance that the UAE attached to foreign policy, saying that the respect that the country enjoys in the international arena is the result of the principled foreign policy, pursued by Sheikh Zayed. This policy is based on adherence to the Charter of the United Nations and to international conventions, on the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of others, on respect for territorial integrity and the sovereignty of nations and on a belief in solving conflict through peaceful means.
