Saif signs contract with Nokia

General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior signed an agreement with Nokia Company to execute an advanced digital communications system for Abu Dhabi police. Deputy Chairman, Hanns Hollemberg signed for Nokia. Following the conclusion of the agreement which took place at the end of IDEX 2005, Sheikh Saif said that communications was the backbone of police work, adding that choosing Nokia to implement the project was a successful move in the wake of technical investigations and field tours conducted by police communications experts abroad.

Sheikh Saif that the "Tettra" digital system which is being used in varius countries was one that would suit the present and future needs of UAE police. On his part, Hollemberg said that the project was the largest and most comprehensive in the region, and that 'Tetra" systems comprised state of the art communication technologies including ciphering, closed-circuit systems, voice transfer and other applications. The project which is expected to be accomplished in two years as part of the Ministry of Interior's five-years plan to upgrade police work in the UAE. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
