UAE residents are finding it difficult to get visit visas for relatives because the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department has changed the rule without making any announcement. The minimum salary clause for seeking visit visas was introduced last year, but are no longer being implemented. The clause allowed residents with a minimum salary of Dh5,000 to get visas for relatives and friends by depositing Dh2,000.

An official at the DNRD told Gulf News a new rule for visit visas has been in place for some time. As per the new rule enforced last year, he said residents can bring their mother, father, son, daughter and wife if they have a minimum salary of Dh5,000. Also, they do not need to deposit Dh2,000.

The official said those who want to bring a relative, such as an uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, brother, sister or nephew, should have a minimum salary of Dh8,000. They also must deposit Dh2,000 as a guarantee, which is refunded after the visitor leaves. "Those who want to sponsor a friend on a visit visa should have a salary of Dh10,000. They are also required to deposit Dh2,000, which is refundable."

The official said the rules have been tightened for individual visit visas because many people previously came here on a visit visa to look for a job. The department has also received complaints of people exploiting the regulations. They became involved in selling visit visas. The department has taken these measures to prevent misuse.
