Schroeder and Hamdan unveil plaque of new UAE embassy in Berlin

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, unveiled yesterday the plaque of the new UAE embassy, marking the official opening of the mission in Berlin. Schroeder and Sheikh Hamdan took a tour of the various departments of the embassy to end at the ambassador's office where they exchanged cordial talks. UAE ambassador to Germany Ali Mohammed Al Zarounei said the UAE had become a modern state thanks to the sound policy of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. '



'Sheikh has laid solid foundations for a foreign policy that based on mutual cooperation, support for juts causes, strengthening the principles of equality and assisting those in need,' he said in an address to mark the opening of the UAE embassy in Berlin. The UAE and Germany, he added, share identical views on many international issues and do their best to resolve some of the global questions. 'The two countries are maintaining close trade, economic, investment and scientific relations. The UAE is Germany major trade partner in the Arab World,' he remarked.



He thanked the German Chancellor for opening the embassy and praised the cooperation shown by the German authorities in this respect. He noted that two-way tourism is also witnessing rapid growth. Ahmed Al Dhahiri, Director of Technical Department at Foreign Ministry said the Euros 22 million building is a landmark architecture which was designed on the latest architectural and environmental standards. 'The 9,000 square metre embassy houses the main departments of diplomatic and consular work in addition to a hall with a 900 seat,' he added. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
