(WAM) A UAE aid plane carrying 40 tonnes of food and medical supplies for Afghan refugees in Iran left here today for Iranian City of Mashhad. The plane is the second in the UAE Red Crescent Society airlift to relieve Afghan refugees, who are living in very difficult circumstances because of the latest events in their country. An RCS team left on the same plane to acquaint themselves with the conditions of the refugees and assess their needs so as to be met. The RCS plans to extend 200 tonnes of relief supplies to the Afghan refugees in Iran. The airlift is in implementation of directives of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to rush urgent relief assistance to Afghan refugees. WAM
