Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade has paid rich tributes to H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for his "sagacious policy and great role" that transformed the UAE from a barren land into "luxuriant oasis" based on a sound economy and solid infrastructure. Wade, who is on a visit to the UAE, made his statement during a meeting yesterday with Saeed Seif bin Jabr Al Suweidi, chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

They discussed avenues of investment cooperation and means of increasing business transactions between the two countries. The Senegalese leader called on UAE firms and businessmen to invest in his country since a package of laws regulating foreign investments and protecting investors' rights had already been enacted there. Wade said his government "renders all kinds of support" to the private sector to enable it play a role in the economic development process as perfectly as possible.

For his part, Al Suweidi said that UAE companies stand ready to offer expertise to the economic establishments and firms in Senegal, given their broad business experience and wide connections with large corporations worldwide. "Arab investments in Africa are relatively meagre because of ever changing investment and economic laws there which adversely affect the flow of investments in Senegal and other African countries," said Al Suweidi. He underlined UAE's desire to promote economic cooperation with friendly and sisterly countries, citing Senegal as one of those countries with which UAE maintains good relations.
