Passenger traffic at Sharjah International Airport jumped 9.45 per cent to 657,153 in July despite high fuel costs and increased economic uncertainty over the global economic recovery.

Sharjah International Airport recorded a total of 5,472 aircraft movements in July, up 2.49 per cent compared to 5,339 in July 2011. It handled 44,792 tonnes of cargo in July 2012. The Sea-Air Cargo throughput increased by 3.96 per cent to 3,863 tonnes compared to 3,716 tonnes recorded during the corresponding period in 2011.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, director-general of Sharjah Airport Authority said: "Ensuring that the thousands of passengers that use the facility every month pass through smoothly and efficiently is one of the top priorities for Sharjah Airport Authority. The month of July witnessed a noticed growth in passenger traffic, flights and Sea-Air cargo, because of the start of vacations season. We prepared very well to cope with the rush, by harnessing the potential and provide the best services and facilities for travellers to make travel easy and comfortable.”

He added: "Sharjah International Airport became the preferred choice of many because of the efficiency of procedures, excellent services, and its strategic location in addition of the presence of Air Arabia.” – Khaleej Times
