Sharjah Ruler inaugurates new premises of Islamic Centre in Germany

Wolfsburg - H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Inaugurated here yesterday the new premises of an Islamic Centre here in Wolfsburg, which has been the dream of more than three thousand Muslims, mostly Arabs, living in this German town.

The centre is the second of its kind to be built in Germany by the Ruler, who inaugurated in September last year a premises of the Islamic Forum in Binsburg, South of Bavaria.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of officials, including the Mayor of Wolfsburg. R. Schnellecke, UAE Ambassador, Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, members of the Wolfsburg Municipal Council and heads of Islamic centres in Germany and other European countries.

In a key note address, Sheikh Sultan thanked the Mayor of Wolfsburg for his great efforts which enabled the project to become a reality. "This is a clear proof of the high level of understanding and humanity of the friendly German people and their belief in the need to expand the channels of dialogue and cooperation with other peoples of the world," he said, adding "It is also a proof that the German government and people genuinely believe that such practice is the best way to entrench security and stability."

The 1,200-square-metre premises sits on a total area of about 3000 square metres in the outskirt of the town, ten minutes walk to the city centre. The premises include prayer auditorium (mosque) for 500 worshippers, another auditorium for women, lecture hall, shops for selling Arab food items and meat slaughtered according to Sharia, in addition to a library and a youth hall that has been furnished with various kinds of sports facilities.
