Sharjah Ruler's new stage play to raise curtain on the 21st Sharjah Theatre festival

The curtain will rise on the 21st Sharjah Theatre Festival on 17th March with the staging of the new play written by Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah H.H Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

The play entitled 'The Black Stone' (Al-Hajar Al-Aswad) will be directed by the well known theatre director from Tunisia Al Munsif Al Suwaisi. Announcing the 21st Sharjah Theatre Festival at a press conference yesterday, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information Abdullah Al Oweis said that the Department is a prime partner in the organisation of the event and the promotion of the theatre movement in the United Arab Emirates.

The stage play is being produced by the Sharjah National Theatre with support from the Department of Culture and Information. The press conference was also attended by the prolific theatre artist and Chairman of the Sharjah National Theatre Ahmed Al Jasmi and a number of other artists who will participate in the new work.

The Ruler of Sharjah has written a number of stage plays tackling Arab issues and all of them were well received by the audience over the past years. The Sharjah Theatre Festival is being held under the patronage of the Ruler, who will also attend the inaugural staging of the Black Stone. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
