Sheikh Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Petroleum Council, received here yesterday at the Emiri Diwan a high-level delegation from the Iranian Majlis (Parliament), led by Kamal Daneshyar, Chairman of the Majlis Energy Commission.

The delegation included Mohsen Yahyavi, Vice-Chairman of the Energy Commission, Dr. Hossein Afarideh, Mohammed Said Ansari, Mohammed Karimian, and Soleyman Fahimi Gigloo. The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Vice-Chairman of Sharjah Petroleum Council, Ismail Abdul-Wahid, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Petroleum Council and other officials including senior representatives from local energy companies in Sharjah.

"Sharjah and Iran have long-standing cooperation in the areas of oil & gas, and this will be further boosted by the import of gas to Sharjah from Iran by Crescent Petroleum, which is due to commence later this year, and will further strengthen the already strong trade ties between Iran and the UAE.", said Sheikh Ahmed as he welcomed the visiting Iranian delegation.

The members of the visiting Iranian Majlis delegation, who are on a 2-day visit to Sharjah, were also given a tour and technical presentations of the oil & gas facilities and installations in the Emirate of Sharjah, including those of Crescent Petroleum and the SajGas gas sweetening plant and the offshore and onshore gas pipeline networks of United Gas Transmissions Company (UGTC), both subsidiaries of the company Dana Gas.

The UAE and Iran have strong economic ties and are major trading partners, with annual bilateral trade exceeding US$ 7 billion per annum. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
