A lantern at Sharjah's Souq Al Jubail has won the Guinness World Record for the world's largest lantern.

The lantern, which was designed and built by Global Event Management Group, is located at the entrance to the souq and stands at exactly 15.5 metres high and 5.6 metres wide.

In accordance with the Guinness World Records official rules, the working structure is an exact scaled replica of an actual lantern and casts a gorgeous, warm glow over the entrance to the market.

Speaking on the award, Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Souq Al Jubail, said: "We were absolutely thrilled when we received the news that we had been awarded this prestigious world record. The lantern, which now stands as an iconic new landmark at the waterfront of Sharjah, will bring even more people to the market to enjoy our high-quality, cost-effective produce from the farm and sea.”

He said the lantern has been on display since June 27 and will be a permanent feature at the souq.
