The Medical District, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Sharjah Naturalisation and Residency Department (SNRD) will be linked via a computer network to streamline transactions. Formalities for medical fitness certificates, issuing and renewing visas, and issuing work permits and residency visas will be streamlined, said Hassan Fahmi Jamal, Managing Director of Global Information Technology, the project's executive company.

This is the first project to link three authorities. To facilitate such a large project, the SNRD will implement a number of steps based on using information technology including the smart form and comprehensive employee systems and will establish an advanced information centre and a hotline enquiry system within two months. The smart form system will help reduce time and effort of the department and client.

The comprehensive employee system will be also be implemented so that clients do not have to move from one counter to another to complete transactions. A similar service will be provided at the airport Immigration. The department will establish a service centre to provide services including typing smart forms, collecting fees via e-dirham, photocopying of documents, digital photography, information and enquiry, and distributing serial numbers to clients at counters, he said. The public will also be able to enquire about their applications at the centre.

A hotline service will be provided so clients can enquire about documents. The information will also be available on the smart form CDs. The department will be selective in future in recruiting staff who must be qualified in information technology. (The Gulf News)
