Sharp rise in users of online visa service

More than 400,000 transactions were conducted online since the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department introduced the service some two years ago. The department's Director General said there was a steep increase in the number of users of the service following the launch of E-Government in October last year.

Col Saeed Mattar bin Bleilah told ‘Gulf New's yesterday that the average number of online transactions has been increasing every year. Col bin Bleilah said the department offers three kinds of services: electronic, common (traditional counter services) and e-form. While the online service is for the private and public sector, the e-form is also offered to members of the public. He said more than 50 companies and 70 airlines from all over the world are using this online service, and added: "But most companies are still insisting on using the e-form."

He pointed out that in the last two years 600,000 e-form transactions had been carried out. This e-form is not going to be cancelled, he stressed, but the public will soon have the online service as a better alternative choice. He also indicated that since 60 per cent of expatriates in the country are sponsored by companies, it would help to quicken transactions if those companies begin using the online services.

He concluded: "A new centre for electronic services called Customer Relationship Centre is going to be set up at each section to promote electronic services for the public. However, in future there will also be direct electronic connection between all public sectors in the emirate and the department." (The Gulf News)
