Washington, D.C. - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met with US National Security Advisor Gen. James Jones, further reinforcing the deep and productive security relationship between UAE and United States.

The Foreign Minister and Gen. Jones discussed how the two countries can continue to cooperate closely on regional and global security issues of mutual concern.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister reiterated the UAE's steadfast support for international initiatives to stabilise Afghanistan and Pakistan, noting the country's leadership role on the issue. The Foreign Minister also expressed the UAE's continued support for reconstruction efforts in Iraq, international non-proliferation initiatives and a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

On Monday, the Foreign Minister also met with US Representative Howard Berman, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss matters of mutual interest. He also participated in a roundtable discussion with US policy and national security experts hosted by the Aspen Institute, a prominent non-profit organisation that encourages dialogue and leadership.

The Foreign Minister is on a five-day visit to Washington. On Tuesday, he will meet with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Congressional leaders from both parties. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
