Sheikh Abdullah reviews bilateral relations with Polish Foreign Minister

WARSAW: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, yesterday met with Radoslaw Sikorski, Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Warsaw.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing cooperation between them in various fields, in addition to reviewing the current developments in the Middle East and a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah, during a joint press conference with Minister Sikorski, expressed his delight with the development of the relationship between the U.A.E. and Poland, and his confidence that his current visit will contribute to the strengthening of this good relationship.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah also emphasised that the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which were established in 1989, have developed significantly and effectively over the past 25 years, a fact that is confirmed by the high-level visits of the leaders of the two countries over the past years.

Sheikh Abdullah noted that currently seven weekly flights are operated by national carriers between U.A.E. and Poland, and that more than 300 Polish tourists visited U.A.E. in 2013.

There are currently 2,757 Polish residents in U.A.E.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah said, "The United Arab Emirates seeks to enhance and consolidate its ties with the Republic of Poland and during the visit, two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed on political consultations and the establishment of a joint committee between the two countries in order to contribute to the development and intensification of bilateral coordination towards achieving the common interests of the two countries." Sheikh Abdullah expressed his hope for further cooperation in all fields, and for continuing the exchange of visits with Poland for the benefit of common interests of the two friendly peoples.

For his part, the Polish foreign minister welcomed Sheikh Abdullah and his accompanying delegation and noted that Poland has outstanding and advanced relations with U.A.E., in the fields of economy, trade, investment and energy in particular.

Minister Sikorski also noted the regional and international stature of U.A.E. and the achievements it made in all spheres.

At the end of the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and the Polish foreign minister signed the two Memorandums of Understanding on political consultations and the establishment of a joint committee between the two countries.

Later, the Polish foreign minister hosted a lunch banquet in honour of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and the delegation accompanying him.

Asim Mirza Ali Al Rahma, U.A.E. Ambassador to Poland, attended the meeting and the banquet.

During his visit to Warsaw, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed visited the Royal Castle, which was built in the 14th century, was the seat of Polish government and parliament and became the administrative and cultural centre of the country. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – Read more:
