Sheikh Fatima to attend Arab Woman Day celebrations

H. H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's wife and Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union, will attend tomorrow, the celebrations to be held at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre to mark the Arab Woman Day. Sheikha Fatima accompanied by her distinguished guests, will open the Productive Family Exhibition, which is being successfully staged for the fifth successive year. Following the National Anthem and recitation of the Holy Quran, Sheikh Fatima will deliver the inaugural speech, to be followed by a speech by Suzan Mubarak, wife of the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Chairwoman of the Arab Woman Summit, which was held in Cairo. The inaugural address will be followed by a water and fireworks display and a carnival march led by a car decorated to represent the Arab Leagueand followed by 500 women wearing folkloric dresses. A number of organisations will participate in the march, including the Khowla Nursing School, Centre of Handicrafts, the Zayed Heritage Village, Emirates Heritage Club and women members of the police.

During the celebrations, Sheikh Fatima will honour 18 women who have been selected by their countries for their active participation in the development of Arab women. From the UAE, Sheikha Jawahir bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah will be honoured for her distinguished role in serving women's issues. The list includes a number of women leaders who were pioneers in the social activities related to Arab women, including Lila Abdul Hamid, former Jordanian Minister of Information and Member of the Jordanian Upper Council, Sheikha Lulu bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairwoman of the Bahraini Council for Child and Motherhood, Algerian journalist Rabiah Galati, Sudanese Professor Dr. Suad Al Fateh Al Badawi, the late Syrian Suad Al Abdullah, the First Chairwoman of the Syrian Women General Union, Zakia bint Saeed from Oman, Dr. Ramzia Abdul Wahab from Iraq, Fatima Al Barnawi from Palestine, Sheikha Ahmed Al Mahmoud from Qatar, First Lady of Comoro Islands Anbar Ghazalle Darwish, Dalal Ahmed Al Roomi from Kuwait, Linda Matar from Lebanon, Captain Pilot Aisha Abdul Qader from Libya, Princess LalaHasna, Sister of King Mohammed VI of Morocco, Suzan Mubarak, wife of the Egyptian President, Al Naha bint Mohammed Al Siyadi, from Mauritania and Ummat Al Alim Ali from Yemen.(The Emirates News AGency, WAM)
