Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was named yesterday as Deputy Ruler of Dubai by a decree by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Born on 24 November, 1983, Sheikh Maktoum completed his high school at Rashid Private School, Dubai and graduated from the American University in Dubai with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2005. He attended numerous training courses in the Dubai School of Government, as well as Harvard University in US.
Sheikh Maktoum is a chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone, where he offers his guidance and steering the cluster's growth since 2002. In addition, as chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated, he has contributed to creating a niche for the entity in the technology and communications sectors.
With his excellent foresight, Sheikh Maktoum has continued with the rapid growth and successive expansion of the Dubai Technology and Media Free zone. He has gone on to introduce many innovative concepts including Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media city and the Knowledge Village. More entities such as the International Media Production Zone, Dubai Studio City and Dubiotech have since emerged, contributing to the status of the UAE as a leading technology and media hub not only in the Middle East, but on the International stage as well.
Sheikh Maktoum has been instrumental in establishing Dubai Internet City, one of the largest specialised technology hubs in the world, while Dubai Media City has successfully consolidated its position as the first regional media center with more than1, 200 companies including the largest Arab and international names. Many countries have sought to cooperate with Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority to benefit from its experience in establishing similar specialised clusters.
As an open minded young leader, Sheikh Maktoum has also contributed to humanitarian causes, including the major role he played during the Dubai Cares philanthropic campaign, which aims at educating more than a million children in the developing and poor countries. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
