Sheikh Mohammad creates new Facebook page

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has had so many friend requests on his newly opened Facebook page, that he will be migrating to a "public page".

"I would like to thank all who have sent me friend requests on Facebook. In order to accept the vast volume of such requests, this profile will be moved to a new 'public page' over the next few days", Sheikh Mohammad communicated via a status update.

The Public Profile page (or "fan page") option on Facebook allows public figures, businesses, community groups such as universities or music organisations and bands, to create representative awareness. However, businesses signing up for the page are not allowed to use it for commercial purposes.

Sheikh Mohammad set up his Facebook profile at the end of June and has uploaded three photo albums, including family images.

As a user-generated content site, Facebook users are able to comment on his status updates and make virtual friends with him on his unrestricted profile, which allows the general public to view his photo albums, videos, personal information and "poke" Sheikh Mohammad (to get his virtual attention).

Sheikh Mohammad has also been communicating with students via status update, and posted a question about whether to start the school term after Eid, which gained huge response. – Gulf News
