President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has offered his congratulations to Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed of Oman on his country's 32nd Renaissance Day, which falls on the 23rd day of July. In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), the President said that the 23 July 1970 was a glorious day and a landmark in the contemporary history of Oman, the Gulf region and the Arabian Peninsula " for it typifies the advancement of the renaissance procession of modern Oman under the leadership of my brother Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed, who has devoted all his efforts and mobilized all the resources to build a modern state and fulfil the aspirations of his countrymen for prosperity, opulence and security and social stability.”

" We feel delighted at and proud of the gorgeous accomplishments the Sultanate of Oman has achieved in various political, economic, social, cultural and other domains as we deem them as our own achievements and a significant addition to the collective Gulf structure, " Sheikh Zayed said. He added that despite the fact that these achievements had been accomplished in such a short span of time, the Sultanate of Oman occupied a respectable position it deserved among countries of the world and which its sons have the right to be proud of.

Sheikh Zayed told ONA that these achievements were ascribed to the wise policy and dogged determination of Sultan Qaboos, who has competently led the procession of renaissance and modernization in his country to prosperity and affluence. The President said that intimate brotherly relations, based on genuine friendship, mutual trust and respect and incessant consultation in the interest of Arab, Islamic, regional and international issues of common concern, tied him with Sultan Qaboos. "Our views are always identical in respect of various issues we used to exchange with each other, " he stated, expressing his deep satisfaction over the firm and distinguished fraternal relations between the two countries, which have further enhanced affinities of brotherhood, kinship and common history binding peoples of both countries.

" We, in the United Arab Emirates, are eager to consolidate these relations and promote them to levels of endless boundaries for the sake of a bright future for the people of the two countries, " Sheikh Zayed opined. He said that both the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE were making confident and steady strides towards forging full and solid partnership in order to reach our mutual interests and objectives in the best interest of the peoples of the two countries.

Citing the border demarcation agreement between the UAE and Oman which was signed on June 22 during Sultan Qaboos' visit to the UAE, Sheikh Zayed said that it was a landmark agreement that demonstrated the height of cooperation and fraternity between the two countries. " The agreement will also widen the scope of cooperation” said Sheikh Zayed. He added that the UAE and Oman, by reaching that historic agreement, have presented an example that could be emulated in sorting out border issues between friendly and sisterly countries. " It was a move based on mutual keenness to maintain security and stability and also boost cooperation and development. It was an example of how geographical barriers should not be allowed to impede the aspirations and interests of the people” said Sheikh Zayed.

The President noted the success made by the Joint High Committee between the two countries which was formed in 1991, saying that it had outlined the strategy of cooperation and sought to upgrade this cooperation from a merely bilateral cooperation to full integration in all areas. Sheikh Zayed pointed out that the UAE and Oman were the first to allow the use of identity cards by nationals of both countries in their movement. That move facilitated the free movement of citizens of both countries and enabled them achieve most of their joint projects. It was a significant step towards strengthening inter-GCC cooperation, remarked Sheikh Zayed. The President renewed his confidence in the wise leadership of Sultan Qaboos and wished him good health so that he continues to lead the Omani people into further prosperity and progress.
