H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's Wife and Chairwoman of the UAE Women's Federation, will the guest of honour at the Arab Women Media Forum, to be held here on February 2 and 3 in implementation of the resolutions of the extraordinary Arab Women's summit. Sheikha Fatima is highly committed to the success of the great event, which coincides with the country's celebration of the Arab Woman's Day. Sheikha Fatima's charity and humanitarian activities have made a unique success story in the Arab woman's history. This is clearly evident through her humanitarian works, including caring for the orphans, the handicapped and other needy groups of the society, in addition to her support for women's cause, said a report from the office of the UAE Women's Federation. The report showed that Sheikha Fatima's record was full of great achievements both at the local and international levels. Her reaching out to the weak group in the society including children, the elderly, women, orphans, the handicapped and widows, as well as her continuous support for women's involvement in social services and national development activities coupled with her support for Palestinians in their struggle against Israeli occupation and her reaching out to the needy throughout the world made her an outstanding personality, the report said. The report cited some of her great works and historic innovations, which seek to boost charity and voluntary works to assist the needy in the society. This include the setting up of a "charity dinner" in 1982, the "Benevolence Award in 1997" and the "Ideal Family Award” also in 1997, to mention a few.

Sheikha Fatima is also known for her generous donations to charitable organisations and to people in distress. Notable among these philanthropist gestures are the half million Dirhams donation she made to the Mothers Council of the Abu Dhabi Educational Zone in 1998 to boost the Council's contributions to the emirate's education programme. In December the same year, Sheikha Fatima donated two million Dirhams to the Centres for the handicapped throughout the UAE. Earlier in 1991 Sheikha Fatima had donated DH200,000 to the humanitarian assistance section of the UAE women's Federation during a children's carnival held at the ladies Beach here in Abu Dhabi. Sheikha Fatima's humanitarian work is not limited to the UAE but goes beyond the country's borders. She reaches out to people in need and in distress wherever they may be. The report showed that Sheikha Fatima was among the first to reach out to the Iraqi women and children by sending several planeloads of various relief items to them. She also sent three planeloads of relief supplies to Albania for Kosovar mothers and children in the UAE refugee camp in Kukes. She also donated monetary assistance to Albanian families accommodating Kosovar refugee families. In the case of Palestinians, the report said that Sheikha Fatima has been giving moral and material support to the Palestinians to boost their moral in continuing their just struggle. This is manifested in the form of several generous donations Sheikha Fatima makes to the Palestinian cause, including the one million Dirhams donation to the Palestinian Heritage Centre to support its programmes of sustaining the Palestinian identity and improving the educational standard of Palestinian women and children.

Last year Sheikha Fatima donated one million dirhams to the Palestinian handicapped children in addition to a donation of one million US Dollars she made for the building of a Sheikha Fatima Centre for the Rehabilitation of Palestinian Handicapped Children in Hebron. In may 2001 Sheikha Fatima also donated DH300,000 for distribution to Palestinian families in the refugee camps. She also donated in August the same year an amount of DH2million to the Palestinian families, whose houses were destroyed by the Israelis. In the last quarter of a century, Sheikha Fatima has been making generous donations to centres and institutes for the handicapped in the Arab World, Asia and Africa. She has been reaching out to organisations caring for women and children and supporting girls guides to encourage them in undertaking voluntary works. Sheikha Fatima has also donated generously to victims of the Israeli aggressions in Southern Lebanon. Reached out to victims of the earthquake that struck Yemen in 1985. She donated 200,000 US Dollars to a Turkish Women Organisation during her visit to Turkey. In march 1987 Sheikha Fatima donated two million Saudi Riyal to a handicapped rehabilitation centre in Riyadh, she donated four million Dirhams in 1998 to a charity organisation in Jordan and one million US Dollars to the Egyptian Red Crescent Society in October 1992 to support the reconstruction effort of schools destroyed by the earthquake that struck Egypt that year.
