Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's Wife and Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union, GWU, has donated Dh5 million to the UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS as her contribution to the relief assistance campaign, aimed at reaching out to the victims of the earthquake, which hit yesterday a number of villages around the Mediterranean port city of Al Hoceima, North East Morocco, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives.

Sheikha Fatima, who is also the Honorary Chairwoman of the RCS, directed the RCS to quickly dispatch relief assistance to the affected areas. She also directed the RCS to dispatch later a women's delegation to the affected areas to assess the needs of women and children so that the RCS can quickly attend to those needs.

According to Sanaa Al Kitbi, RCS Secretary General, Sheikha Fatima's gesture to the victims of the Al Hoceima earthquake was in line with her initiatives to continue to reach out to all people in distress. "It also reflects her concern for women's and children's welfare, particularly in a tragic situation like this, when women and children are the most affected,” she said, adding that Sheikha Fatima was deeply moved by the disaster and the high loss of lives and properties.
