The President's wife and Chairperson of the UAE General Women's Union, H.H Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak has expressed her profound gratitude to President H.H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for being a strong proponent of women's issues. In remarks made here today, Sheikha Fatima specifically hailed the unstinted support given by Sheikh Zayed to the UAE women in their legitimate aspirations in playing a proactive part in their country's affairs, including participation in the political life of the country.

"The recent remarks made by Sheikh Zayed in which he strongly reiterated his support to women causes were not only a reflection of his wisdom, but also a demonstration of his keenness to ensure that women are given their rights fully alongside men without any segregation” said Sheikha Fatima. She added that the UAE women have been profoundly appreciative of this stance and therefore "feel a strong sense of allegiance to this great leader". "Without the support accorded to women issues by Sheikh Zayed and his brothers, the Rulers of the UAE, many of the great strides that have been made by women today would not have been possible” said Sheikha Fatima, adding that women across the country are proud and grateful about this support.

Sheikha Fatima also expressed her delight for the participation of Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, who is also Chairwoman of the Arab Women's Summit, in the Arab Women Media Forum which was held earlier this week in Abu Dhabi. "I'm extremely delighted about the participation of Mrs. Mubarak, whose contribution was instrumental. I'm also extremely delighted about the participation of my sisters, the wives of their Royal Highnesses the Kings, and their Excellencies the presidents of Arab countries.

I salute them all for their active involvement in women issues in their countries" Sheikha Fatima said. She pointed out the Abu Dhabi Declaration which was formulated by elite Arab women will form a new and correct basis for a relationship between the Arab women and the media. It will provoke a new trend of thinking within the Arab media industry, a trend that will respect the Arab woman's intellect and humanity and also recognise its contribution in her country's affairs, Sheikha Fatima concluded.
