Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy and Planning, and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Tejari Dot.Com, (http://www.tejari.com), the Middle East's top online business-to-business marketplace, has been awarded the prestigious Italian Minerva Award for 2005. Awarded for women excelling in the fields of economy, politics and scientific research, Minerva Award was bestowed upon Sheikha Lubna in recognition of her outstanding competence in various political, administrative, academic, humanitarian and social fields.

Al Qasimi is the first Gulf and third Arab Woman Business-leader to receive such an eminent award. Minerva award is an accomplishment that enhances Sheikha Lubna's many achievements which led to her being nominated recently for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was also chosen by Forbs Magazine as one of the most eminent leading women personalities in the Middle East, ranking 22nd in a list of 50 impressive and energetic women in the Arab World. Al Qasimi is also the winner of a special prize in management of establishments from the British House of Lords.

The British Commercial Relations Council granted "Tejari" Company which she leads the Super Brand grading category. Reacting to the honour bestowed upon her, Sheikha Lubna said: "I feel proud for obtaining this prize and I consider it an honour and distinction to the Arab Women in general and the UAE women in particular.”

Sheikha Lubna added: "Women in every part of the world are able to make great contributions whenever given the right support by governments and civil society organizations. A woman is a real and essential partner who could not be ignored or sidelined to insignificant roles.”

Anna Maria Mamouleeiti, Chairperson and founder of the organization of Minerva Award said: "Sheikha Lubna's winning of the award was a result of many considerations. The foremost consideration emanated from her own character as an example of the empowered woman who managed to bring her definitive personality to each discipline of work including politics, management and academia. This is in addition to her humanitarian and social concerns, efficiency, expertise as well as her effective role in serving her country. She is also the main driving force behind a very important and successful electronic company. That is why she has been strongly nominated so that she becomes the role model for other women.”

Mamouleeiti also praised Sheikha Lubna, describing her as an excellent negotiator and advocator who enriched the exchange of knowledge and dialogue between the Arab World and the West. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
