Five junior showjumpers from the UAE left on Monday to take part in the Arab Team Challenge which is scheduled to take place from July 1 to 5 at Hoofddorp in Holland.
The UAE riders include Sheikh Rashid Bin Ahmad Al Maktoum, Sheikh Ali Bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Mohammad Abdullah Al Kitbi, Sultan Saif Al Awani and Yousuf Hashim Al Bafaaly. They will be taking part on horses borrowed from the host country, according to a press release from the Emirates Equestrian Federation.
The event, being held exclusively for member- countries of Group VII, will be held as part of FEI European Showjumping Championships for Juniors which is being held on Dutch soil for the first time. The organising committee requested the National Federations of FEI Group VII members to enter a junior team for the Arab Team Challenge.
The Arab Junior Team Challenge lends an extra dimension to the international character of this year's anniversary competition. This will provide young Arab participants with the opportunity to get a close look at the showjumping skills of their European counterparts.
During the international competition, each country will compete with four participants, whereby only the three best scores will count. The first round is scheduled for Thursday. The top ten countries will compete in the final, which will take place on Friday. The team whose best three riders have the least number of penalty points will win the gold medal. – Gulf News
