Enhancement of cooperation among sister cities in the interest of citizens, upgrading of such link at institutional level, and further activation of twinning protocols by way of visits by specialised technical teams, were some of the recommendations made at the Dubai Sister Cities Forum that concluded here on Monday. The Dubai Sister Cities Forum Declaration also underlined the need to exchange expertise among cities in the field of architectural knowledge, and called for visits by teams from sister cities to participate in festivals and official exhibitions.

The forum also laid stress on educational cooperation and the development of human resources between the sister cities, according to reports in the UAE's dailies. The three-day gathering of mayors and top executives from cities with which Dubai has signed twinning protocols and cooperation accords opened last Saturday under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, and Chairman of Dubai Municipality. The event was aimed at highlighting the need to achieve common benefits in the realms of trade, economy, technology and tourism for the cities of the forum.

Meanwhile, officials said that a web site for Dubai's sister cities would be launched following a proposal by Qassim Sultan, Director-General of Dubai Municipality. The proposed portal, to be administered by Dubai Municipality, would bring together the collective experiences of the sister cities and promote their cooperation. Officials said the forum has added to the meaning and concept of twinning and friendship and increased the level of interaction among the sister cities. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
