The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation will send its sixth and last relief plane to Afghanistan next week, but will continue to send relief goods by ship, according to Ibrahim Bu Melha, Dubai Attorney General and Vice-Chairman of the foundation. The plane which will leave next week will carry the basic requirements for completing the setting up of the second refugee camp in Afghanistan, according to a report in "Khaleej Times.” The campaign launched by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, in support of the Afghan refugees, had attracted a huge response from the general public, including rich businessmen as well as poor people who contributed small but meaningful amount of Dh50 and Dh100, Bu Melha said. "People including UAE citizens and expatriates responded positively to the drive and offered generous donations in cash and kind,” Bu Melha said. "The quantities of relief items collected so far are huge. We had to rent a second warehouse to store the goods.” Stressing that the foundation was keen on delivering each and every item donated, Bu Melha said that they decided to ship containers of relief goods to Afghanistan due to the low cost of shipping rather than sending planes. In the meanwhile, Foundation Director Khalifa Mohammed Al Shaer received yesterday a donation of Dh51,000 from Sukaina bint Al Hussain Secondary School for women in Dubai.
