In a statement, Al Roumi said after the amendment was approved by the Federal National Council, the medal will be awarded to the families of the martyrs.

She noted that the first Martyrs' Day, observed on 30th November 2015, reflected the strong solidarity between the people and the leaders, namely His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, during the grand celebration.
