South Korea and UAE strategic partnership will strengthen bilateral ties in nuclear energy: Park Geun-hye

Korean President Park Geun-hye has said that South Korea and UAE have become strategic partners and this relationship will strengthen the ties of two countries in the field of nuclear energy.

She has also said that Korea is looking forward to cooperate with the UAE companies to enhance their presence in Asia, and to Korean companies to expand their business in the Middle East.

Speaking at the UAE-Korea Business Forum in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, she said, "forty years since the establishment of relationship between South Korea and the UAE, we have become strategic partners and this will develop the cooperation further in the nuclear energy sector. There is also development in both countries and support by the governments of the UAE and Korea in order to enhance the relationships in economy, and industry."

She added, that business of two countries and companies are confident to have Korean companies in the Middle East on the one hand and UAE companies in Asia, "we look forward to cooperate in order to encourage the economies of the two countries and to encourage Korean businessmen and also UAE businessmen to exchange work."

The UAE-Korea Business Forum, jointly organised by Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Korea Chamber of Commerce and industry, KCCI, was attended by Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, Ebraheem Al Mahmood, 1st Vice Chairman, Abu Dhabi Chamber, Yongmaan Park, Chairman, KCCI, Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation other senior officials and a number of businessmen from the UAE and Korea.

The Korean President said, "I seize this opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude for the efforts exerted in economic development between the two countries. Korea and UAE endeavour to achieve new quantum leap in creativity, and innovation to develop the two countries within the short period of time. Both governments are developing and having reforms and also Korea exert efforts in order to transform its economy to be based on the economic reforms."

"I am confident that we will be able to find channels of innovation technology and to have quantum leap in industry, where we focus on innovation and reforms. In this regard we should focus on economic development first, we have to enhance development in energy also, as you know the building of the nuclear plant for peaceful purposes also contributes to very close relationships. We should focus on services in this nuclear energy in order to complete the services and to focus on the construction and commissioning of the plants."

"We are exerting efforts to develop the services in the nuclear plants and hoping that we will have the success through the cooperation in developing and commissioning these plants," she pointed out.

She said that new industries of energy are also very important, "Korea enhances the development in the field of industry and also UAE encourages the use of energy. I am confident that we can build together a new model of business and also new solutions in solar energy with the capital and the technology of Korea. In this regard, we think that the project of smart cities with Korean Electrical Company and also the UAE electricity company. The Korean Company has developed Smart Buildings, and their management of such innovation and using solar energy and storing of energy and to be used in lighting. Also we have the intelligent robots and using intelligent ways of saving energy in order to build Smart Cities in the UAE."

Secondly, cooperation in infrastructure, railways and factories, "We need to have added value cooperation, which includes the health care, food, and we think there are capabilities in both countries in such development. The number of the patients from UAE who go to Korea for medical acre after two years has increased from 19 to 80 patients. Also there is cooperation in Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, we succeeded in enhancing the Abu Dhabi and Dubai medical services. We hope to achieve our investment in the field of companies between the two countries and in the field of Pharmaceutical and medicines."

"Also, we think we are cooperating in Halal Food production, as you know Halal food is popular in the world, which is looking forward to have more trade in this field because of the cleanliness and the production of Halal food. We think we can be a leader in the field of Halal food production and to work together in order to exchange development in the field of food industry and also to share the industries in both countries and to explore more venues of development. I think we should also encourage the working in new markets. We confirm our relationship of confidence and cooperation, however we need to have a share in third world countries markets."

She hoped to enter successfully in the Egyptian market in order to have more experience in this area and to create success in the region.

She said that Business of two countries and companies are confident to have Korean companies in the Middle East on the one hand and UAE companies in Asia, "we look forward to cooperate in order to encourage the economies of the two countries and to encourage Korean businessmen and also UAE businessmen to exchange work. I confirm that both countries will support the achievement of marketing both environment to create the right climate for overcoming the boundaries and difficulties."

Ebraheem Al Mahmood, 1st Vice Chairman, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ADCCI, has said that UAE-Korea Business Forum reflect the shared desire of the both countries to discuss comprehensively the methods of increasing investment between the UAE and South Korea and two open new horizons and venues of cooperation between the two countries.

In his opening remarks at the Korea UAE-Korea Business Forum in Abu Dhabi, he said that Korea is one the most important commercial and trading partner for the UAE in general and particularly for Abu Dhabi emirate, and this delegation visit is very important because it represents large no of institutions of the industry and all sectors of Korea. "I seize this opportunity to invite all companies and industrial Korean companies particularly in the field of electronics, vehicle, petrochemical to have strategic partnerships with Abu Dhabi emirate, and to play an important role in the investment and the development of the economy which is part of Abu Dhabi 2030 vision."

He said that South Korea is among our partners in the UAE and Abu Dhabi for a long time." Commercial trade between the two countries have doubled year-on-year, the exchange of trade has increased to Dh 17.5 billion by 2013. Also the number of Korean companies in Abu Dhabi increased to 86 which are operating in different field and sectors. Also the relationship between the two countries has witnessed quantum leap in the previous years since our starting of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and Korea Electric Power Corporation, which is designing and building and commissioning the nuclear plants in the UAE. This is part of the peaceful programme of nuclear energy in the UAE. The cooperation between the two countries will contribute effectively in infrastructure, industry and commerce in order to serve the development of the UAE. "

He also announced opening up of first representative office of the ADCCI in Korea next month, "in order to increase investment between the two countries and facilitate and support UAE companies that desire to be available in Korean markets and to attract more Korean companies to work and invest in the Abu Dhabi emirate and to contribute to the sustainable development of the UAE. ADCCI will support the and facilitate the Korean companies desiring to invest in Abu Dhabi."

Addressing the forum, Yongmaan Park, Chairman, KCCI said, that this forum will contribute to more economic investments, "Korea and UAE have shared interests in development in order to increase investments. We want to continue the development and cooperation between the two friendly countries.
