Michael Martin, Speaker of the House of Commons, will start from April 6 a three-day official visit to the UAE during which he will meet with a number of UAE top officials, including Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al-Ghurair, Speaker of the Federal national Council (FNC).

Al-Ghurair will hold talks with Martin on the first day of the latter's visit. They will discuss, among other issues, mechanisms for boosting joint parliamentary cooperation, the stances of the UAE and Britain on a number of regional and international issues and will hold a joint press conference to highlight the objectives of the visit and other issues of mutual interest.

Martin's programme during the visit includes tour of a number of national economic, cultural and tourism institutions in the country. He and his entourage will also go on familiarisation tour of a number of development projects under execution.

According to Al-Ghurair, the visit is within the framework of exchange of visit by the two Houses with the aim of boosting relations of cooperation between the two countries in various areas. He said relations between the UAE and the United Kingdom are very strong, thanks to the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, adding that these relations have special place in the heart and mind of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Al-Ghurair also underscored the special ties between the FNC and the House of Commons and the continuous cooperation and coordination between the two Houses on many issues of mutual interest, particularly at international conferences. He cited his last visit to the UK and the House of Commons in January and the positive outcome of that visit. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
